Frequently-asked questions

The following are answers to the most commonly-raised questions by passengers when going through security.

What kind of plastic bag can I use to carry my liquids aerosols and gels through security?

The bag used to hold liquids, aerosols and gels in containers which have a maximum volume of no more than 100ml must be transparent, re-sealable and hold a maximum volume of one litre (approximately 20cm x 20cm). The bag needs to be able to seal properly with all your 100ml liquid containers inside it for it to be allowed through security screening at the airport in Malta.

Can I carry disposable contact lenses and contact lens solution in my hand baggage?

Yes, but these would still fall under the 100ml rule and would therefore need to fit inside the standard transparent liquids bag detailed above.

I have a pacemaker. Do I need to walk through a metal detector?

If you have a pacemaker, you may request the security personnel at the screening point to have a hand search instead of going through the walk-through metal detector.

What can I do to get through security screening quickly?

Apart from following the guidelines in these information pages, you can save time by following these simple tips:

•    Remove jackets or coats and place them in a tray provided.
•    Remove all metal items such as keys, coins, wallets and mobile phones from your pockets and put them either inside your hand luggage or in the tray provided.
