Parliamentary Secretary

Mr Alex Muscat is presently serving as the Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities within the Ministry for Home Affairs, National Security & Law Enforcement.

An economist by profession, Mr Alex Muscat has been working closely within government structures, essentially forming part of the Private Secretariat team at the Office of the Prime Minister for the past 7 years, acting as Deputy Head.

From a very young age, Mr Muscat has been distinctively interested and involved in politics. At the age of 16, he joined the Social Democratic student organisation PULSE, and was elected as a Student Representative on the Junior College Board. Together with now Minister Aaron Farrugia, he founded Fondazzjoni IDEAT, which is a progressive think tank.

In 2008, Mr Muscat ventured into political activism, by being significantly involved as a candidate campaign manager for the 2009 European Parliament Elections. Subsequently, in 2012, he was elected as minority leader of the Mosta Local Council, registering the highest ever number of votes attained by any candidate in the same locality. He was re-elected in 2015, with an even greater majority. He contested with success the 2017 General Elections, becoming a Member of Parliament for the first time.
