The Detention Service was set up to:

• Cater for the operation of all closed accommodation centres.
• Provide secure but humane accommodation for detained persons.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment.

Persons are kept in detention pursuant to the issuance of a detention order by the Principal Immigration Officer and or other competent bodies. This is done in accordance with the applicable legislation.
